The Feast

Nasruddin is invited to a banquet but arrives in his usual simple clothes and is ignored. He leaves, changes into his finest garments, and returns, receiving much better treatment. During the meal, he dips his coat sleeves into the food, saying, “Eat, my coat, eat!” When questioned, he explains, “When I came in my old clothes, no one cared for me. Now they respect me because of these clothes. So it’s only fair they enjoy the meal.”

The Pot

Nasruddin borrows a pot from his neighbor and returns it with a smaller pot inside. When the neighbor asks about it, Nasruddin says, “Your pot gave birth to a baby pot.” The neighbor is delighted. Later, Nasruddin borrows the pot again but doesn’t return it. When the neighbor asks for it back, Nasruddin says, “I’m sorry, but your pot died.” The neighbor protests, “How can a pot die?” Nasruddin replies, “If a pot can give birth, it can die too.”
